Personal Essays

This is where you can find links to some of the personal essays I have published in Seven Days newspaper.

Intermarry Me talks about how I became a wedding officiant, and Ties That Bind talks about praying with tefillin — a topic that plays an important role in my recently completed novel, Little Grandma’s Mirror.

Party Politics is a memoir about my high school job as a “Hostess Helper” in Montclair, New Jersey.

Parenting is the focus of Mother, Interrupted, about a miscarriage and Happy Meals, a much lighter piece about sit-down family dinners.

I discuss body issues in Size Matters (about trying to lose weight), How Sweat It Is (about becoming a gym person) and Clothes Encounters (about the nightmare of shopping for things to wear).

Six Degrees of Separating was my farewell to the city of Burlington. It appeared in the paper the last week I worked there, before we moved to Rhode Island.
